Fundenhall Fete - 1st September 2007

On Saturday 1st September 2007 Fundenhall hosted its Grand Fete and Pet Show. Held at Robert Bothways property ‘The Grange’, the day dawned slightly overcast. Gradually the clouds cleared and the wind abated.

After months of preparation and a busy week erecting tents the fete opened at midday. With the aroma of the BBQ in the air and the sound of music kindly provided by Simon Moore and Cathryn Wilkinson, people started to arrive.

The stalls on the green all did well with some selling out. We had some new stalls this year on the green and by the pet ring which were well supported by all attending. All ages enjoyed the numerous games and children enjoyed rides on ponies Oscar and Solly provided by Lisa and Richard Tighe and looked after on the day by Marion Gray and Julian Vincent-Bunn. The ferrets returned this year (with their owners – thank you), providing a popular following and lots of laughs.

This year we also held a Scurry with the HPR field trial club from Norfolk and Suffolk. This received numerous entries from other Gundog clubs in both the Norfolk and Suffolk region.

Many will have passed the Grange entrance on the B1113 noticing the large chicken very kindly lent to us from the Harleston young farmers. The big attraction for the fete was the pet show with a large turnout of animals including guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs and even a white rat with pink eyes! Thank you to our judge Francis Jonas from Cromer who donated her time to attend and judge. The best in show was a Kerry Blue Terrier named Parker owned by Stephanie Israel from Norwich. Reserve champ was a Jack Russell named Tiggy. Best puppy was a Boxer named Murphy. Congratulations to all who attended and for proudly showing us your animals.

Mid afternoon saw the brave flexing their muscles in the tug-of-war. Young and not so young, male and female joined in with lots of support from the surrounding crowd.

A huge thank you to all our sponsors for prizes, support, time and materials. Thank you also to Robert Bothway for giving us the use of your fields, front lawn, power and toilets. To our families and friends who helped and supported us. To everyone who donated produce, supplies and their time to help us. Thank you very much.

We raised over £4000 so all of you who joined us on the day thank you. We couldn’t have done it without you and we hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
