Wonderful News - 18th December 2006

WONDERFUL NEWS

On the 18th December 2006 we received the wonderful news that Fundenhall Church’s grant application to English Heritage has been accepted.

The first stage is that in 2007 further more detailed surveys of the work needed to fully repair the tower will be done along with necessary development work and fees. This work is estimated to cost over £35,000 of which English Heritage have offered us a grant of £25,000.

The work to repair the church will not be done until 2008/2009 and the costs at the moment are more than £200,000 of which English Heritage have offered, ‘in principle’, £166,000.

There are other grants we can apply for to help meet the target but we shall be doing more fundraising to make sure that the church is open again fairly soon.

In the meantime we are selling

NOTELETS

Following on from the success of the Fundenhall Christmas Cards, we now have available notelets.

PRINTS

A limited edition of 250 fine art colour prints of St Nicholas' church have been printed. The reproduction is of the watercolour painted by the late Henley Curl of Wreningham that was on the cover of the recent appraisal of Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall distributed to every household in the two villages. The unframed prints cost £20 each and all of the proceeds go to the church restoration fund.

TEATOWELS

Fundenhall tea towels are available for £3 each. These are white with green designs of Fundenhall Church and village.

Anyone wishing for details of or to purchase any of the above items or help in any way with Fundenhall Church please email hedleysmith@ashwellthorpe.org.uk

We are having to carry out emergency repairs to the church in the next few weeks. Firstly a new fixed ladder is to be installed in the tower to enable safer access for the architect, officials and workmen who will be using it from now on.We are also having to do some emergency work to stop the water coming into the top of the tower and doing more damage. This will cost £1,539.

The Charitable Trust of the Abbey National Building Society has donated £500 to Fundenhall Church. We would like to thank them very much for their generosity.

Thank you to the large band of helpers who gave the church a huge ‘springclean’ last month. Thank you also to everyone who has helped in any way this past year to raise money for the church.
