Bike Rides
Following requests from one or two people I have started bike rides in the Parish. These are aimed mainly at those people who are not regular riders and want to get back to it. Most of the people joining at the beginning said that they could cycle about 3 miles but there are no circular routes that short locally. Therefore the rides started at 5 miles with one this week of about 10 miles or even a bit more (on back roads to Wymondham or similar) with people surprising themselves with what they could achieve. This has been helped by using routes which have a tea stop at roughly halfway. The rides go at the speed of the group so there is no pressure to race along.
So far the group has been fairly small but everyone is welcome. We meet at Ashwellthorpe Village Hall at 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoons(although we may need to move to 2.00 to avoid traffic on the way home and darker evenings as the year moves on).
I have been leading the rides but cannot make it every week, but the group aim to keep the rides going every week if possible. So if you have been thinking of starting cycling or wondering if you should get that old bike out of the shed give it a go. You may surprise yourself with how well you have done and will have had a very sociable time as well.

Public Footpaths etc. Map
At the beginning of May 2007 a new Notice Board was erected, containing a large-scale map based on Ordnance Survey and implemented by Norfolk County Council. Entitled Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall Parish Walks it is in place on the green in front of All Saints Church, Ashwellthorpe. It features a "YOU ARE HERE" indicator, and public footpaths, public bridleways, permissive footpaths, permissive bridleways, Ketts Country Walk, Tas Valley Walk, nature trail etc. are all marked. Parts of the parishes of Hapton and Wreningham, along with their footpaths etc., are also included on the map.
Kett’s Way is a long distance footpath which passes through Wymondham, on to Ashwellthorpe and then via Bracon Ash to Norwich. If you CLICK HERE you will see an article describing the walk.
This link is to the DEFRA site and describes a short country walk on permissive paths in Fundenhall
The EDP leisure site has a lot of walks in Norfolk. They are not in the local villages but can easily be accessed.
Please remember when walking in the country to observe the Countryside Code
