HARDINGHAM FLOWER AND PRODUCE SHOW

(in connection with Hardingham Fete)

CHILDREN (up to 14 years)

1. A jar of flowers from the garden

2. Mini garden in a seed tray, including ornament, e.g. gnome(25 cm x 18 cm approx.)

3. Painting, drawing or collage - subject An Olympic event

4. Potato Monster

5. 3 Jam Tarts

 

ADULTS

BAKING

6. Competition cake, using recipe below.

7. 3 egg Victoria Sandwich

8. Cheese & Tomato Flan in a foil dish

9. 7" round of Shortbread

10. 6 Cheese Scones

PRESERVES

11. Jar of Lemon Curd

12. Jar of Marmalade

13. Jar of Jam of your own choice

14. Jar of Pickle of your own choice

HORTICULTURE

15. 1 spike of Delphinium in a container

16. 3 Roses of one variety

17. 3 sprays of floribunda Roses of one variety

18. 5 stems of Sweet Peas

FLORAL ART

23. Fragrant Posy of flowers and herbs not exceeding 5" diameter

Flower Show

ICED CHOCOLATE CAKE

Cake

150 g (6 oz) Margarine

150 g (6 oz) Castor Sugar

150 g (6 oz) Self-Raising Flour

50 g (2 oz) Cocoa

3 Eggs

Method

1.Cream margarine & sugar

2. Add Eggs

3. Fold in the seived Flour & Cocoa

4. Place in a lined 8" cake tin or 2lb loaf tin

5. Bake at 150 C

6.Cool

Chocolate Icing

6oz Icing Sugar

1oz Cocoa Powder (seived)

2oz Grated Plain Chocolate

4 Tablespoons of water

Method

Mix all ingredients together, warm over hot water until a coating consistency to coat the cake

(Icing should only be warm, if too hot the icing will look dull)

 

RULES

 

THIS IS AN OPEN SHOW FOR AMATEURS

  • 25p. per entry.
  • Submission of entry forms preferred by Thursday, 26th June 2008. However, late entries will be accepted up to 10.00 a.m. on the day of the show.
  • In the baking classes all entries to be presented on plates and covered.
  • In the horticultural classes exhibits must be homegrown or, in the case of pot plants, owned by the exhibitor for at least six weeks prior to the show. All pot plants to be displayed on saucers.
  • All exhibits to be free from pest and diseases.
  • All exhibits to be handed in at the marquee between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, 29th June 2008.
  • The marquee will be closed between 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on the Sunday while judging takes place.
  • Certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded and displayed.
  • Prize money of £3 for first place, £2 for second place and £1 for third place will be awarded to the children's classes only.
  • All exhibits, which the exhibitor wishes to retain, must be marked (NFS). Those not so marked will be sold.
  • The decision of the judges is, of course, final.
